Five New Android Features Worth Knowing About in September 2026
Android's September 2026 feature drop includes several changes that are more practical than flashy.
Google announced features involving Find Hub, motion-sickness assistance, visual descriptions, collaborative notes, and message customization. Availability can depend on Android version, device, country, and other requirements, so do not assume every Android phone receives every feature immediately.
Gemini can remember where you put something
On supported devices, Google says Gemini can save the location of an item in Find Hub.
The idea is useful for objects that do not have a tracker attached: tell Gemini where you put something, optionally associate a photo, and retrieve the remembered location later.
That is convenience, not magic tracking. The phone is remembering information you supplied.
Motion Assist
Google's Motion Assist adds a subtle moving overlay intended to reduce the visual conflict some passengers experience while looking at a phone in a moving vehicle.
It is designed for passengers. A phone feature should never be treated as permission to use a handheld phone while driving.
Guided vision
Google is also adding a Guided vision feature that can provide descriptions of surroundings using the phone's camera.
As with other AI-assisted interpretation, treat it as assistance rather than infallible perception—especially where an incorrect description could create a safety risk.
Collaborative notes in Messages
Google says users can collaborate on notes through Google Messages, providing another way for people to maintain shared information while communicating.
Custom message themes
Message conversations can also receive additional visual customization.
That is the least consequential feature in the group, but it may be the one people notice first.
Check before assuming your phone is missing something
Feature drops do not necessarily reach every Android model simultaneously.
Check your Android version, install current system and application updates, and consult your phone manufacturer's information when a feature described by Google does not appear.
