How to Make the Words Bigger on Your iPhone

If the words on your iPhone are too small, you don't need to struggle with them. Your iPhone has a built-in setting that lets you make text larger.

You won't hurt your phone by changing this setting, and you can change it back whenever you want.

Make the text bigger

1. Find the Settings app on your iPhone. Its icon looks like a gray gear.

2. Tap Settings once to open it.

3. Scroll down until you see Display & Brightness.

4. Tap Display & Brightness.

5. Find Text Size and tap it.

6. At the bottom of the screen, you'll see a slider. Put your finger on the round control and slowly move it to the right.

As you move it, the example text on the screen gets larger.

Stop when the words look comfortable to you.

That's it. You do not need to press a Save button.

Still too small?

Your iPhone has another setting that can make the text even larger.

Open:

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text

Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes.

You'll now be able to move the slider farther to the right and choose considerably larger text.

Try increasing it a little at a time until you find a size that's comfortable.

Make the words darker, too

If larger letters still aren't easy enough to see, making them thicker may help.

Go to:

Settings > Display & Brightness

Find Bold Text and turn it on.

You can use larger text and bold text together.

Don't worry about experimenting

Changing the text size does not delete your pictures, contacts, messages, or apps.

If you make the words too large, simply return to the same setting and move the slider back toward the left.

Some apps don't support every text-size setting, so you may notice that certain apps change more than others.

The simple version

Remember this path:

Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size

Move the slider right for bigger words and left for smaller words.

Once the screen is comfortable to read, you're finished.
